On 6th January 1917 this aircraft's undercarriage collapsed on landing at Redcar and the aircraft was damaged.

A William John Coast was born in Bromley, Kent in 1893 and is a likely canditate for his identity. Nothing more is known about him.
Longhorn N5037 was built to contract 114826/16 by Brush E.E. Co. Ltd at Loughborough and delivered to RNAS Redcar on 4th November 1916. It was tested at Redcar on 10th November 1916 and accepted. It sustained two accidents prior to this one, one in November 1916 and one in December 1916 (both detailed on this website). After repair from the damage sustained in the accident detailed above it continued in the role at Redcar until finally being damaged again at Redcar on 22nd August 1917 from which it was not repaired. It was surveyed on 7th December 1917 and deleted for use as spares on 14th December 1917.
