Wellington LB226 at Thornaby airfield.

On 7th February 1943 this aircraft taxied into Wellington DV884 at Thornaby airfield and both aircraft were damaged but were repaired within two weeks.

Crew - Names unknown.


Wellington LB226 was built as a MkVIII torpedo bomber by Vickers at Weybridge to contract 71441/40 and delivered to the RAF in November 1942. After acceptance at MU it was delivered to 6 (c)OTU in January 1943. It suffered minor Cat.A/FA damage at Thornaby in the incident detailed above and was soon repaired. It continued to serve with 6 (c)OTU until it was put into storage and later struck off charge on 21st March 1946.
