Battle L4972 at Thornaby airfield.

On 13th March 1939 this aircraft was badly damaged on landing at Thornaby airfield though nothing more is currently known about the incident.

Crew - Names unknown.


Battle L4972 was built to contract 540408/36 by Austin Motors at Longbridge, Birmingham, from where it was almost certainly delivered to 9 MU for acceptance in December 1938. It was issued to 185 Squadron in January 1939 and sustained Cat.W/FA damage as a result of the incident at Thornaby detailed above. It was converted into instructional airframe "1441M".
