On 6th November 1936 this aircraft bounced on landing at Thornaby airfield and overturned injuring the pilot.
He recovered and completed his course receiving a distinguished pass in April 1937.

F/Sgt George H Hatch would later serve with 64 Squadron but was lost when his aircraft, Spitfire K9813, was shot down over Belgium on
31st August 1940, he died some days later on the 26th September 1940 in Edingen Hospital. He is buried at Enghien Cemetery, Belgium.
Following this incident at Thornaby in November 1936 Cat.R/FA damage was recorded and the aircraft was repaired, it was damaged again on
8th February 1937 and again Cat.R/FA damage recorded. After repair it was later written off in a crash on
12th June 1937 with Cat.W/FA being recorded. The wreckage was recovered and taken to Aldergrove for assessment but
finally struck off charge on 13th September 1937.
