On 24th May 1910 this aircraft was been test-flown on the sands between Redcar and Saltburn on one of the runs and whilst flying at a height of only two or three feet off the sands a turn was made, the aircraft sideslipped and it skidded into a hole on the beach at Marske. The tyre of one of the wheels came off and though the pilot cut the ignition he was thrown from the aircraft. The aircraft damaged it's
left wing. The pilot was not injured.
Pilot - Mr Robert Blackburn, of Leeds.
Mr Blackburn's long and successful life and career is well documented on the internet.
It is believed that this was the first aircraft Robert Blackburn built known as Monoplane No.1, it was an odd looking machine resembling a three-wheeled car with wings and a tail. The engine was linked to the propeller with a chain drive.
