Hudson AM574 at Thornaby airfield.

On 3rd June 1943 this aircraft was damaged at Thornaby airfield when it swung on take-off which caused the undercarriage to collapse. The aircraft was badly damaged and was not repaired.

Hudson AM574 was built by Lockheed-Vega at Burbank, California and purchased without contract by the B.P.C. It was delivered to the UK by sea, arriving in JUly 1941. After assembly and acceptance at MU it was issued to 1 (c)OTU at Silloth on an unknown date, it later moved with the unit to Thornaby in March 1943. Cat.E2/FA damage was recorded after assessment as a result of this incident at Thornaby listed above.
