Avro 504 9874 was built by George Parnall & Co. Ltd. at Bristol and delivered to AAP RNAS Killingholme for assembly on 1st January 1917. It remained there until being transferred to 'C' Flight at RNAS Cranwell on 9th May 1917 where it suffered a minor accident on 7th July 1917. Following repair it was returned to service only to suffer another accident on 22nd August 1917. This time it was repaired at a factory and was ready for dispatch on 18th January 1918. It was then issued to RNAS Redcar on 23rd February 1918. The damage at Redcar must have been more severe as it was not repaired and was deleted from stock on 30th March 1918.
