Avro 504 9867 at Redcar.

On 16th February 1917 was badly damaged following a force-landing at or near Redcar aerodrome due to engine failure. No further details about the incident are known.

Pilot - Probationary F/O Thomas Herbert Boyd RNAS.


Thomas Boyd was appointed to a commission in the RNAS to the rank of Probationary F/O on 22nd October 1916. On 19th March 1917 he was promoted to Flt Sub-Lt and on 1st August 1918 to Captain (temp). He was Mentioned in Despatches on 3rd June 1918. Nothing more is known about him or his service.
Avro 504 9867 was built by George Parnall & Co. Ltd at Bristol and delivered directly to RNAS Redcar on 4th December 1916. It was tested and accepted there on 6th December 1916. Following a ground accident at Redcar in December 1916 it was repaired and returned to service before suffering this accident in February 1917. The aircraft was not repaired after this second mishap and was deleted from stock on 27th February 1917.
