Caudron GIII 8949 at Redcar.

On 23rd March 1917 this aircraft was wrecked in a forced landing at Redcar following engine failure.

Pilot - Probabtionary F/O "A S Redgate" RNAS.

No information has been found on the pilot, it is doubtful that his name given above is correct as there was no officer with those initials who served in the RNAS.
Caudron 8949 was built by the British Caudron Company Ltd at Hendon and delivered to AAP Hendon on 30th June 1916 where it was tested and accepted on 4th July 1916. It was transferred to RNAS Redcar on 8th August 1916 where it arrived on 10th August 1916 and used by the Flying School. After suffering a collision in December 1916 it was repaired and returned to service before suffering this incident on 23rd March 1917. After assessment it was deemed beyond economic repair on 3rd April 1917 and deleted from stock.
