Caudron GIII 8945 at Redcar.

On 24th October 1916 this aircraft was damaged in a force-landing at Redcar, following engine failure and the landing the aircraft overran into a hedge.

Pilot - Flight Sub-Lt "R F Hallon" RNAS.


This pilot's name cannot be correct as his name does not appear in the lists of RNAS Officers during WW1. I cannot offer a correction at the time of writing this webpage.
Caudron 8945 was built by British Caudron Company Ltd at Hendon and delivered to RNAS AAP Hendon on 24th May 1916 where it was tested and accepted on 26th May 1916. It was taken apart and transported by rail to RNAS Redcar on 11th July 1917 and following re-erection and testing it was accepted on 2nd August 1916. It suffered damage at Redcar in mid August 1916 and was repaired. It was then again repaired after this incident above only to suffer two further accidents at Redcar in the following months, the first was again repairable in December 1916, the second in the January 1917 wrote it off. It was finally deleted from stock on 31st January 1917.
