Caudron GIII 8943 at Redcar.

On 21st August 1916 this aircraft was damaged in a force-landing at Redcar.

Pilot - Flight Sub-Lt Charles Barclay de Tollie Drummond RNAS.


The pilot entered the RNAS as a Probationary Fligh Sub-Lieutenant on 12th January 1916 and arrived at Redcar for training in or around February 1916. He is listed in the Casualty List in Flight Magazine in May 1917 as being accidentally injured, probably in France. He was possibly a Canadian as a "Barkley Drummond" attended a re-union in Canada in December 1921. Little else is known about him.
Caudron GIII 8943 built by British Caudron Co Ltd at Hendon and delivered to RNAS AAP Hendon on 11th of May 1916, it was tested there on 16th May 1916. It was then dismantled, left Hendon on 16th June 1916 and was transported to RNAS Redcar where it arrived on 22nd June 1916. The aircraft was repaired after the accident detailed above and continued in the training role at Redcar and was finally deleted on 25th June 1917.
