Avro 504 2930 after its accident at Redcar.
Pilot - Flight Sub-Lt Norman Black RNAS, of Reading.
On 21st November 1916 this aircraft crashed on landing at Redcar, the undercarriage collapsed damaging the propeller, engine and bottom wings.
The damage was enough to cause it to be written off.
FSL Black died on 12th October 1917 serving with 9 Naval Squadron, He is buried at Larchwood Cemetery, Belgium and was nineteen years old.
Avro 504 2930 was built by Saunders Ltd for the RFC and was transferred to the RNAS on 11th May 1916 and arrived at Redcar on the same day
suggesting it was already in the North of England. On 14th July 1916 it was fitted with the fin of Avro 504 aircraft 3307 for an unknown reason
(see above photograph). Following this incident at Redacr it sat until being assessed and deleted as beyond economic repair on 19th January 1917.
