On 16th April 1916 this aircraft crashed on landing at Redcar aerodrome and was slightly damaged. The pilot is not thought to have been injured. The aircraft was later repaired and would later be damaged a number of times at Redcar during the First World War.
Pilot - Flight Sub Lt Walter Edward Traynor RNAS, aged 23, of Putney, London.
F/Lt Traynor completed his training and was later posted to 3 Naval Squadron. He was killed on 2nd February 1917 and is buried Achiet-Le-Grand Communal Cemetery Extension, France. He was twenty three years old. Sadly nothing else is known about his WW1 service or life.
Avro 504 1486 was built by Brush EE co Ltd of Loughborough and delivered to RNAS Redcar on 13th March 1916,
it was tested and accepted there on 31st March 1916. Following this incident in April 1916 it was repaired and
involved in a number of mishaps in the coming months. On 29th October 1916, and repaired again before a last incident
on 24th January 1917 which the damage was severe enough to write it off. It was finally deleted from stock on 14th
