G-ASHT after its rebuild.
On 1st May 1971 this aircraft had taken off from Yeadon airfield (now Leeds-Bradford airport) and suffered engine failure in the air. It was seen to circle for some time with the engine misfiring, the pilot attempted a force-landing at 20.00hrs near Thornthwaite but the aircraft struck a stonewall and crashed. The pilot was sadly killed in the accident but the aircraft was not totally destroyed. It was later bought and rebuilt and is still airworthy today, in 2012. The casualty had bought the aircraft a year before this accident.
Pilot - Mr Harvey Beckwith, aged 38, of Shipley, Yorkshire. Killed. Buried Bradford Jewish Cemetery, Birks Fold, Bradford, Yorkshire.
Harvey Beckwith was born in the North Bierley district of Yorkshire in 1932, he married in Leeds in 1960. Nothing else is known about him at the time of creating this webpage. I thank Mr Nigel Grizzard for contacting me in April 2012 and kindly supplying details of his burial location and photograph of his gravestone.
