On the 4th of August 1989 and following a competition finish the pilot pulled up into a normal circuit. However he mistook the flap lever for the airbrake and had to resort to a sideslip approach (still not realising his error). Floating, he decided to fly onto the ground and ground loop rather than go over the ridge at the end of the airfield damaging the glider at Sutton Bank at 15.30hrs.
